At the center of Eko Atlantic is the massive coastal defense system designed against ocean waves and known as the “Great Wall of Lagos.” This structure serves as critical climate infrastructure, protecting not only the new city but also Victoria Island and the surrounding existing urban areas against sea flooding.
The city planning has been shaped around wide boulevards, high-rise office towers, luxury residences, hotels, and mixed-use buildings. While the financial district offers high-standard office spaces designed for international banks and companies, the residential and retail districts target an upper-segment urban lifestyle. Infrastructure systems have been specially planned from the ground up according to modern city standards.
When completed, Eko Atlantic will become a new urban core that relieves the existing infrastructure pressure of Lagos, attracts direct foreign investment to the country, and creates a regional financial and business center for West Africa. With its climate resilience, engineering scale, and economic objectives, the project is positioned as a reference model for next-generation coastal cities on the African continent.
