In the first phase, two large single-story buildings (~980,000 ft², 200+ MW) are being commissioned, while with the second phase the total enclosed area will reach approximately 4 million ft² and the power capacity will rise to 1.2 GW. The facility is developed and operated by Crusoe; Oracle appears to be the primary hyperscale tenant leasing these buildings, and OpenAI uses this infrastructure within Stargate for model training and inference workloads. With access to low-cost renewable energy, a high-capacity grid connection approved by ERCOT, and advanced liquid cooling technologies, the campus is positioned as one of the most strategic investments in the United States for large-scale AI computing infrastructure.
OpenAI Stargate Data Center Campus is being built on the Lancium Clean Campus in Abilene, Texas, as the first and flagship site of the Stargate AI infrastructure platform established by OpenAI in partnership with Oracle and SoftBank. The campus is an AI “megafactory” consisting of eight data center buildings designed to host massive GPU clusters for large language models and other advanced artificial intelligence systems, with approximately 1.2 GW of power interconnection.
